999 Letters to Yourself - A book to heal the lost souls

“Stand up for who you are. Respect your Self and ignite the divine sparks you.” – Amit Ray.

BTS – a Korean boy group, is extremely well-known for their Love Yourself campaign back in 2017. One of the band's most notable songs in the "Love Yourself: Answer" album was Epiphany, with dulcet sounds and meaningful lyrics: “I’m the one I should love in this world. Shining me, the precious soul of mine. I finally realized, so I love me. Not so perfect but so beautiful. I’m the one I should love.”

Before BTS set the standard for "love yourself," a ton of songs and words had been written about the subject. In addition to music, tons of books have been produced offering guidance on loving oneself. It seems simple enough to say "love yourself," but how can we really accept who we are? It is, at all times, easier said than done. That is why many young people, even if they've heard the phrase "love yourself," never really have the opportunity to really comprehend who they are and move on from past their trauma.

“I hope that you, one day, can become a better version than you once were. A strong interior self is always better than a flashy exterior appearance. I hope you are always resilient and courageous, standing in a place that embraces the light, living the life that you desire”, this quote is excerpted from a book called “Becoming Your Best Self”, also known as “999 Letters to Yourself”, written by MIAO GONG ZI – a famous Chinese web novelist. This is his first work, published in 2018, and has received enthusiastic effects from book readers all around the world.

So, why “999 letters” but not any other numbers? According to Chinese folk beliefs, the number nine means "everlasting" or, "eternal", representing completeness and luck.

– The Forbidden City has 9,999 rooms, Tai He Dian has a roof covered with golden lapis lazuli tiles, decorated with 9 breeds of dragons on the roof.

– The citadel of Tian’anmen is 9 rooms wide and 5 rooms deep.

– The stone gate of the Earth Palace in Ding Ling, Beijing is also carved with 99 large stone nails.

"999 Letters to Yourself" is rife with profound teachings, life lessons, and experiences that, in the end, are likely to come across for every single human being. Every letter contains a brief piece that merits careful thought and consideration. Love yourself more, and become the better and happier version of yourself.

"999 Letters to Yourself" honors each person's diligence and fortitude. Many people have gone through thousands of hardships and even been reviled before finding success. Every time we falter, we must put in every effort to get back up and muster the bravery to move forward with assurance. Miao Gongzi asserted that the greatest fear in life is losing our courage and self-assurance. (TEDU Q)

The majority of self-help books don't make the ideal friends for those with mental illnesses, but "999 Letter to Yourself" is a whole other story. It is the therapy that calms us down and eases our souls anytime we are depressed about unpleasant problems in our lives.

"999 Letters to Yourself" has a unique color, not just the author's own confides sent into letters, but in which each of us can find ourselves. The book includes 999 letters, in which each letter is advice, motivating young people to move forward courageously to fulfill their dreams. This book is believed to be that one 'classic' that every young person should peruse in their life.

"Let your efforts be worthy to your dreams"

“Basically, there is no tip to success. If there is, there are only two things: First, persevere to the end and never give up; Second, when you want to give up, please look back at the first tip.” - Miao Gongzi.

In a world full of chaos, how can you conquer the mountain of success? Success is a high mountain, and effort is the only way to conquer that mountain. The difficult road is the uphill road. Don't put a limit on yourself, you will see that your abilities are limitless. Just keep your enthusiasm and try your best for your dream. If you only try superficially, you will never reach your dream. If we want the effort to be worthy of our dreams, we need to take a serious look at implementing it, not just in our thoughts but also in our actions.

“If one day, when the effort keeps up with the dream, then, the dream will not disappoint the effort you make. Let's become an excellent and excellent person; when you dedicate yourself to doing something, the whole world will help you to succeed.” (Miao Gongzi)

"Bravery makes you mature"

Maturity and courage are logically related to each other, because:

“In this world, there is always a kind of courage that makes us suddenly grow up, it makes us resilient, makes us cry, makes us feel warmth deep inside, gives us the courage to move forward on the path of life.” (Miao Gongzi)

Courage to live the life you want, courage to step out of your comfort zone is the first step of adulthood. If you don't dare to even make a decision to do something, it will be very difficult to move forward in life. (Hạnh, 2021-2022)

“Believe in yourself. You are braver than you think, more talented than you know, and capable of more than you imagine.” (Roy T.Bennett, The Light in the Heart)

Some impressive letters in the book:

Letter 131:

“I will never be good enough, nor perfect, but so what? This is me, sometimes happy, sometimes sympathetic, sometimes eager to move forward, sometimes lazy, sometimes resilient, sometimes weak, sometimes tolerant, sometimes contemptuous, but I am always on the path of getting better and better.”

Letter 272:

“If you feel like you’re struggling too hard right now, then tell yourself: “The easy road is only downhill.” Maintain perseverance because you are going uphill. If you overcome it, you will definitely make progress.”

Letter 382:

“Every day you live is a prelude to success. You proactively grasp each day, meaning you have the opportunity to hold success tightly in the palm of your hand; On the contrary, if each day passes in vain, success will be further and further away from you.”

Letter 824:

“The most interesting thing about life is that it has no script, no rehearsal, and no redo. The greatest value of life is that we live true to our ego and are willing to shoulder all responsibilities.”

As young people, we are often very enthusiastic, but we are also because of insignificant stumbles then falter and give up. Perhaps, we are still young and have not experienced the bitter aftertaste of life. Perhaps every time we open a self-help book, we often think that this is just a book full of empty life philosophical lines, but don't rush to judge. When you read carefully, you will feel that these are stories taken from the author's own life. The message that he wants to bring to readers is to become the most perfect version of ourselves. Make your all-out effort and plan for yourself today!

Xiao Zhan – a famous Chinese actor once said: “Even when there are sometimes bumps in the road, you have to keep your mind and live as your best version in life”. Sometimes, because of life’s difficulties, we tend to forget our original intentions and ideals of life. I believe that ideals and intentions are spiritual pillars and everyone must have them, don’t forget them, try to turn your ideals into reality and live with your most beautiful appearance.

With a positive attitude, we will easily face countless challenges with limitless energy and a serene spirit. When you’re busy with life, don’t forget to take care of yourself and don’t forget to love yourself.

In the whirlwind of work, or when you are snowing under tons of assignments at school, just take a few minutes to unwind by indulging yourself in some motivational letters in “999 Letters to Yourself”. At this time, please love yourself more than ever!
